On behalf of the MO-KAN 02 Chapter of the WMA, I want to invite you to the 28th Biennial Women Marines Association Convention and Professional Development Conference being held in Kansas City, Missouri July 25 – 28, 2014.
It’s a great year for the state of Missouri. The travel book publisher, Lonely Planet, has listed Kansas City as number 6 out of 10 top vacation destinations for 2014. (Of course TIME Magazine ranked us the number 1 drinking state.) Visitors will find jazz, fountains, food, and inviting visitor districts to visit. We have award winning barbecue restaurants and fountains galore. From large and majestic to small and whimsical, each of the over 200 Kansas City fountains has a character all its’ own. So it is no surprise why the Kansas City area has earned its bubbly nickname, the “City of Fountains.” (The only place that may have more is Rome, Italy.)
Right behind the hotel is the National World War I Museum. (Yes in Kansas City, not in D.C.) The museum is planning many activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the War. It’s a great place to visit and explore. One gets to walk over the poppy field when entering the museum. Not to mention the Hallmark Visitor Center just across the street.
For our children, we have a wonderful Sea Life Aquarium and a newly opened Lego Land, and Science City at Union Station. Plus the area is home to the number 1 professional soccer team in the US – Sporting KC, who dominated the US Soccer program in 2013. Of course, the Kansas City area is also the home to the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
For our younger members there is the Kansas City Power & Light District, home to quality restaurants, local places to quench one’s thirst, dance clubs, and wonderful outdoor entertainment.
These are just a few of the wonderful places that await you in Kansas City. So mark your calendars for July 25- 28, 2014 at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City.
