Meet Hana WMA Member and Camp Lejeune Spouse of the year
Following hundreds of nominations nationwide and a national vote yielding more than 20,000 votes, Hana Romer has been named the 2024 Armed Forces Insurance Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune’s Spouse of the Year. Romer is currently stationed with her husband, Captain Nicholas Romer, at MCB Camp Lejeune.
In its 16th year, Armed Forces Insurance continues to celebrate the commitment of over 1.1 million military spouses nationwide. We are honored to acknowledge the remarkable contributions of military spouses across all six branches of the Armed Forces, who dedicate themselves to advocacy and produce significant, positive impacts within their communities.
As a Marine Corps veteran and military spouse, Romer understands from personal experience the unique challenges that both veterans and military families face. As an alumni advisory board member for the Military Family Advisory Network and as a current member of the Military Officers Association of America’s Currently Serving Spouse Advisory Council, she leverages her unique experiences to be a voice for military families and veterans. In her professional life, she works on behalf of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs official mental health awareness campaign, Make the Connection. Through her work on this campaign, she has the opportunity to have a part in bringing the stories of veteran mental health to life.
“I have always had a heart for the veteran and military community because I am part of both of those communities. For people to think I am worthy enough to represent Camp Lejeune is truly humbling.” Romer shares.
From December 4, 2023, to January 26, 2024, community members nationwide submitted nominations for this prestigious award. Starting at the base level and progressing to the branch and then the overall Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year® (AFI MSOY), winners like Romer are celebrated for their military community engagement, leadership, community enhancement efforts, communication skills, and inspiring personal journeys. The ultimate AFI MSOY will be announced on May 9, during a special luncheon in Arlington, VA, celebrating National Military Spouse Appreciation Day. “The Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year® award transcends a mere accolade; it represents a vibrant and mission-driven network of military spouse advocates and leaders. As we’ve seen time and again, unity is our greatest strength,” remarks Lori Simmons, VP, Chief Growth & Marketing Officer at Armed Forces Insurance.
