Greetings and Salutations

FROM THE WMA NATIONAL PRESIDENT

May 2020

Marines,

As we continue to deal with the CDC guidelines of social distancing during the COVID pandemic, I hope that you are all finding ways to reach out to your families as well as your fellow Marine Sisters.  Be assured that WMA National continues to act on your behalf to conduct the business of WMA.

This spring has been an active one regarding our major Programs to include Scholarships, MCJROTC as well as our Matching Funds and Grants:

Dottie Stover-Kendricks, the Chair of the Scholarship Committee, reports that we were able to award scholarships totaling $55,000 to 31 very qualified applicants.  Congratulations to all recipients as well as those WMA members who sponsored them.

Brenda Moore Chair of our MCJROTC program, mailed out 265 packages to MCJROTC schools around the country.   Since schools will not reopen for the remainder of their school year, the Senior Marine Instructors (SMI) plan to mail the certificates and ribbons to their Outstanding Cadet recipients.

Patti Orsini Chair of the Matching Funds and Grants (MF&G) Committee continues to respond to requests from our Chapters for our Matching Funds Program and for our Emergency Grants from Veterans in need especially due to the Pandemic situation.  For more information on this program see our website and or contact the MF&G Committee at mfg@womenmarines.org

GOING GREEN

You will be glad to know that your next issue of Nouncements is “in the mail,” so keep an eye out for it.  Every member who has an active email address should have received an electronic copy, with a hard copy for those who requested one, coming close behind.   Please note WMA is “Going Green,” and starting with the first issue in 2021, the default version will be electronic.  If you want to receive a hard copy, you must officially identify your choice by notifying the Membership Secretary at msec@womenmarines.org.

2020 PLANS BEING WORKED ON

As you know, we made the decision to cancel this year’s convention. While we know it was the right choice, we also realize that it was a big disappointment for us all.   Even though we will not meet again for Convention until 2022 in Las Vegas, we are still coordinating events that we can share our camaraderie.  A couple of examples include the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of WMA that we had planned to commemorate at this year’s convention as well as a “Virtual Fun Run/Walk.” Stay tuned for more information.

WMA is proud to support all of our Sister Marines and all Veterans.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.  If you need information, just a resource or even a fellow Marine to talk to, WE ARE HERE.   Taking care of each other is “what we do.”

Semper Fidelis,

Rhonda Amtower

WMA National President
