This has been an eventful quarter for CA-3. We were honored, privileged, and delighted to have our National President, Betty Moseley Brown, as our guest of honor at our monthly meeting on 18 May. This event was hosted by Barbara Naas and her daughter, Sarah Rivera (LE), at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Redwood City.

We had 38 members and guests in attendance and Betty made sure she personally spoke with each and every one of them. We were especially pleased to have Captain Gloria Chiu join us for this event. Gloria is stationed at MCRD San Diego and was visiting her parents in the Bay Area. Gloria had recently joined WMA and this was her very first chapter meeting. She was a delight and we are so very happy that she joined us and had an opportunity to meet our National President as well. Betty’s speech was wonderful and all our members were very impressed by both her words and her fantastic public speaking skills.

Many of our members are unable to travel to convention so they never had an opportunity to actually meet our current National President.  Because Betty is so personable, each member felt comfortable in her presence and just about everyone got a photo taken with her to document this special visit. Some of our members who had never attended a WMA convention decided to attend the 2014 Kansas City convention because they were so moved by Betty’s speech. We send Betty a big THANK YOU and hope she can return to the Bay Area often. She is always welcome at CA-3. OOO-RAH Betty!

Our chapter participated in the annual 4th of July parade in Redwood City. We joined an all Marine group composed of Marine Corps League, Young Marines and women Marines. This group represents all eras from WWII to the current day. Redwood City is very supportive of those who have served and it is always a wonderful experience to be in this parade. This will be our fourth year and we are very excited to represent WMA and our sister Marines.

One of our members, Lucille “Lucy” Danielsen, suffered a fall in May and broke her leg. She is recovering in a nursing facility and we miss her greatly at our monthly meetings. We wish Lucy a speedy recovery and will keep Lucy and all our sisters in our prayers.

CA-3 sends warm greetings to all our Marine sisters. Take care of each other and stay well.
