Women’s symposium focuses on family unit

CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan  — The Family Unit: Marriage and Motherhood was the topic of discussion during the recent women’s symposium hosted by 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, at the theater here, May 27.

More than 100 female Marines and sailors from 3rd MLG and 3rd Marine Division, III MEF, attended the symposium, which featured various guest speakers and a discussion panel.

Financial responsibility, career planning, relationships and nutrition were also discussed as part of the agenda.

Sgt. Maj. Laura Brown, sergeant major of Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III MEF, said the symposium was a necessary step in ensuring female military members have a platform to discuss issues unique to them.

“This forum is about successfully navigating the military as a woman,” Brown said. “It’s always good for Marines who have been there and done that to share knowledge with our younger Marine counterparts.”
