Today is the last day of National Women’s History Month. Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the event, along with the many events held nationally, the WMA MI-2 Motor City Chapter co-sponsored a screening of “Lioness: There for the Action. Missing From History“. The documentary follows a group of female Army support soldiers who found themselves engaged in direct ground combat in Iraq.
According to MI-2 Chapter President Debra Drummond, “Women are 20% of the returning troop population and more than 700 have earned Purple Hearts since 9/11. We owe it to them to tell their stories.”
In addition to raising awareness for female military veterans and to make the public aware of the issues our troops face right now, they raised several hundred dollars to support Michigan women veterans. Additionally, supporters donated several carloads of items for homeless female veterans as well as to local veteran food pantries.
